l'amour pour le lundi

I'm feeling francais today, and thought i'd share a few of my faves.

First up is my girl Ladyhawke avec "Paris s'enflamme," of which you may have heard the English version. The French version is better. Ecoutez:

I first heard Yelle in a hotel room in Bordeaux, and it took me another year to find out who the heck the girl was, but I'm so glad I did. Here's the video that introduced me... (PS - the title translates to "I want to see you..." and "dans un film pornagraphique" I think you can figure out.)

Brazilian duo The Twelves remixed another of her songs, also worth a listen:
Yelle - Ce Jeu (The Twelves Remix) by DjAbag

Stromae (who is actually Belgian, go figure) released a lovely little tune called "Alors on danse," which has been remixed every which way. There's an awesome mash-up out there with Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." which I unfortunately couldn't seem to find, BUT a close second would be this little mix avec Kanye ici:

Kanye West - Alors On Danse by The Hotel Specialist

And I just came across a danceable remix of one of my favorite old French classics "Moi Lolita" by Alizee.

Supersoaker - Moi lolita by HAMMAHOUSE

Mr Oizo, music producer and film director (known mostly for his 1999 "Flat Beat" and his work with Uffie, who rocks my socks off) is another French fave:

Mr OIZO - POSITIF by Issac1127

And if you're still craving that je ne sais quoi du francais... Here's a couple more:

In-Grid - Tu es Foutu by automaticdruggie
Sexy Sushi - Sex Appeal by klozetkapagi

Bon appetit, mes amis! xxx.

TIK TOK: let the countdown to bob sinclar @ Pacha tonight begin!

New Yorkers, are you ready to feel the love generation? World, hold on, Bob is on his way. His recent track featuring reggae artist Sean Paul is pretty dance-worthy. Most of Bob's music is designed to take you to some far away sunny place where everyone is smiling and loving each other. Unfortunately, us New Yorkers are stuck in the rain.

At the same time as Bob's kumbaya-everyone-loves-everyone-style music is what made him famous, the man knows how to drop a dirty beat. Check out The Bob Sinclar show for more.

Daft Coke

Take that Pepsi: Daft Punk has united with Coca-Cola to release limited edition bottles (gold and silver, representing Thomas and Guy-Manuel's helmets). Even for non-advertising geeks, this is pretty cool. Check out the ad below:

I hope they come out with a better soundtrack for the rest of the campaign than for Tron. xxx.

Laidback Luke is ready to explode

2 days ago I woke up on a plane to the Laidback Luke EM from Radio 1 Weekend 2009 in Ibiza and let me tell you, if you have to go straight into work after a redeye, that mix (get it here) is a pretty good way to wake up.

Of course, little did I know Pete Tong had another surprise waiting for me: the Dutch detonation* released another essential mix on my birthday. Thanks LBL for a fantastic 2 hour birthday explosion.*

He's also dropped a bomb* on us recently that you should absolutely get into immediately if you haven't already:

* all puns intended. Sorry.

Also, in 2010 he teamed up with Gina Turner to become Nouveau Yorican:

TONIGHT: Super8 & Tab @ Cielo

Finnish duo Super8 & Tab have been producing epic trance music since they teamed up in 2005 on Above & Beyond's record label, Anjunabeats. And lucky New Yorkers, they just so happen to be spinning tonight in the sweetest spot of the meat packing district, Cielo. So if you're feeling it, check 'em out:

i wanna be like... [EDITED]

I wanna be like Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike. Seriously. These two showed up out of nowhere (actually, they came from Greece, then raised in Belgium, and they've been blowing it up in Ibiza for a bit) and have been taking over my SoundCloud feed of late with tunes with Kaskade, Dada Life, Axwell and more.

So please enjoy my favorite duo of the week!

ready for the weekend

The best birthday present a girl could ask for? To be serenaded by a lovable Scottish singer-songwriter/DJ/producer on a beach somewhere tropical.

Well, this is close enough - the one and only Calvin Harris will be performing this weekend in my beautiful hometown of San Diego at 4th & B. The beach is only a few blocks away. Pretty close to perfect way to celebrate my birthday. And I know Calvin's got love for me, cause I was born in the 80's, the 80's.

Calvin Harris - Flashback by aldiyonathan
Calvin Harris - Ready For The Weekend (Fake Blood Remix) by charlie chung

The self-proclaimed creator of disco will be joined by our own Steve Aoki. Born in Miami but raised in the not-too-far town of Newport Beach (think "the OC"), Aoki is one of the few DJs out there who is famously sober. Also, betcha didn't know: Aoki's dad was an Japanese Olympic wrestler... and he founded the restaurant chain Benihana. Really.

love songs

In honor of St Valentine (who undoubtedly would not have approved of Hallmark cashing in on his saintly hood by selling corny cards for lovers lacking in creativity), I thought I'd do a little love song post. Seeing as "Love" is the number two thing rave babies care about (after peace, but before unity and respect), naturally there are loads of good vocal-heavy love songs.

These are for the lovers...

Only You (Kaskade) by 3nk
21 - Axwell - I Found U (Remode) by xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Faithless - Sun To Me by schastie
Avicii - Seek Bromance (Avicii Vocal Mix) by PistuTM
Tiesto You Are My Diamond by TiestoFansArea
David Guetta & Laidback Luke Feat. Samantha Jade - I Need You Now (Extended Version) by Hampan

And of course, can't forgot about all those players out there trying to juggle multiple Valentines. Whatever will they do? Ask Calvin, of course. He gets all the girls.

Happy V-day! <3 <3 <3 xxx.

Happy Monday! To celebrate the fact that the sun is out, I'm getting into some awesome tunes from Lightknife, a Las Vegas local who knows how to drop a dirty beat.

SATURDAY: Ingrosso @ Webster Hall

I'd say these kids are pretty aptly named: they're Swedish, they play house music, and they are quickly become a full-blown mafia, taking OVER. If you've never seen them live, you've missed out. Luckily this Saturday you have a chance to redeem yourself at Webster Hall.

Or you can stay right here and get into the classics like "Leave the World Behind" that are partially responsible for my insane love of house music.

Laidback Luke, Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell & Steve Angello - Leave The World Behind feat. Deborah Cox by SebastianIngrosso
David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso, Dirty South ft. Julie McKnight - How Soon Is Now (album version) by SebastianIngrosso
Sebastian Ingrosso & Dirty South - Meich by SebastianIngrosso
Miike Snow - Silvia (Sebastian Ingrosso & Dirty South Remix) by SebastianIngrosso

Now get those dancing shoes on! xxx.

i can go for this

I promise to go back to this weekend's options momentarily, but first I have to throw today's tune into the mix:

Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That - Members Only Mix by Kaskade

50% rock, 50% soul, 50% house, 285% love. Can't argue with math skills like these. Enjoy! xxx.

FRIDAY: Option C: A-Trak @ Lavo

As the youngest DJ to ever win the prestigious DMC World Championships (he was only 15!) and half of Duck Sauce (of the gigantic "Barbra Streisand" fame), A-trak is another great option for New Yorkers this Friday. He's playing at Lavo (more info here). If that name sounds familiar, then you've obviously been to the Palazzo in Vegas. The venue is actually a bit reminiscent of Vegas, as soon as you forget that you're in a basement in midtown.

His style varies, so it's hard to say if this will be more electro or a more hip-hop-heavy show. Either way, you hear the bass and you say whoa.

Say Whoa by A-Trak
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix) club edit by A-Trak
Tiga - What You Need (A-Trak Remix) by A-Trak
Robyn - Indestructible (A-Trak Remix) by A-Trak

And I'll throw in my favorite Duck Sauce track for good measure:
Duck Sauce A-Trak Armand Van Helden - Anyway by katiekayyyy

xxx.

FRIDAY: Option B: The Twelves @ Good Units

Option B for this Friday in New York, if you're feeling a little more indie-electro-remix-funky (Disclaimer: I made that genre up), head over to Good Units for The Twelves. Buy tickets here for just $12.

Something about the Twelves always makes me smile. They are so upbeat and happy, making them a great choice for a Friday after a long week.

I couldn't find the full "30 Minutes of the Twelves," which is a shame because it's fantastic, but there's an excerpt below, as well as a few of my favorite remixes of theirs:

The Twelves - 30 Minutes of Twelves (Excerpt)new! by kayagold
Metric - Help, I'm Alive (the Twelves Mix) by 7mins Of Revenge
Black Kids - Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You (The Twelves Replay) by thebeatbrothel
03 In For The Kill (The Twelves Remix) by Atómica

And if you're still in the mood for more, their essential mix is quite a mood-brightener. Head to Er7 and get into it.

xxx.

FRIDAY: Option A: Joachim Garraud @ Webster Hall

There's loads coming up this weekend in New York... though I may end up just throwing a dance party in my room to save money: more on that later.

Anyway, Friday's jampacked with options, the first being the very French remixer/producer, Joachim Garraud at Webster Hall. Tickets are $5 if you RSVP here and arrive before midnight.

If you don't know him already, you might at least be aware of the essential-mix-frequenter "Are You Ready." More tracks below.

Joachim Garraud - are you ready by La Vendetta Sghignazzante
Anaklein – Lena (Joachim Garraud Remix) by Brickhouse Records
Wrecking Ball by Madeline
"Street's Sound" Joachim Garraud Feat. Aurelpercu by Aurelpercu

More options coming up, hold tight! xxx.

RECAP: everything is better with a gorilla

I know I just posted a very dense Tiesto post before the show, but I feel a recap is entirely merited considering I believe the show from this weekend was in the top 5 of my life. And that was just the main show. We went (excuse me - were escorted into) the aftershow at Vanity with AN21, where Tiesto spun for a second round.

I can't seem to find his full set anywhere online, so if you missed it, you missed out, just know that. However, he did drop a track no less than 15 hours ago with Hardwell, so you can enjoy that for now:

Tiesto & Hardwell - Zero 76 by HARDWELL

I also need to throw some credit toward AN21. Even though I absolutely cannot stand his name (for the record, it's pronounced "Antoine"), I have to hand it to him, he knows how to throw a good afterparty. Moreover, there's nothing better than DJs who are having a good time to help you have a good time with them, and Tiesto and AN21 looked like two 6 year olds with Tonka trucks onstage.

If you're unfamiliar, you might remember AN21 from the killer remix of Pendulum's "The Island" with Steve Angello and Max Vangeli...

Pendulum - The Island (Steve Angello, AN21 & Max Vangeli remix) by AN21

Or:

Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick - Nothing Better (AN21 & Max Vangeli Remix) by AN21

And as a longtime Gorillaz lover, this remix is usually on repeat while I'm at work:
Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill (AN21 & Max Vangeli Remix) by AN21

My friends can attest to the fact that everything really, honestly is better with a gorilla, so join the love. xxx.

i never felt like this

Tune of the day. I'm always very into Jack Beats' remixes so I'm stoked to see a good original from them. Too knackered from the weekend to tell you anything more than they are from the UK and they're pretty much the shit. So get into it.

JACK BEATS- Out Of Body by Jack Beats

EDIT: So it seems Jack Beats is back in full force. See below for another original and of course, typical JB-style remix.

mash-up morning

It's a rare occasion these days that I get attached to a song outside of the broad category of EDM, but I cannot stop listening to this mash-up from Wait What. The xx brings a great mellow-morning-feel to the classic "Juicy" from Notorious.

Wait What - juicy-r [the notorious b.i.g. vs. the xx] by waveofsounds

Whether or not you're big into rap, west coast or east, or even hate fat people, you have to love Notorious. If only because he can spell (unlike Fabolous).

Also, this tune reminds me a bit of a much older mash-up you probably already know from Jay-Z and the Verve. Such a good mix that I actually have trouble listening to either on their own anymore.

Dirt Off Your Shoulders (Bittersweet Symphony Remix) by masterp

So go mash up some eggs and hash browns and have a happy mashy morning. xxx.

you're alright but i'm here, darling, to enjoy the party

Shoutout to Felguk for a grand set last night at Avalon - and for playing this song, which has actually become my anthem in the past month. It somehow missed the cut on my Dada Life post a week or so back... but it's here now:

Martin Solveig and Dragonette - Hello (Dada Life Remix) by Tchoy

I love it for so many reasons: it's a remix that right off the bat feels like a remix, but the builds are well done. Dragonette never fails to make me smile, ever since her appearance on Kaskade's "Fire in Your New Shoes." But most of all, I love how the lyrics are so fitting for every time I happen to hear it while out near cute boys (they seem to be gravitating to me lately...) and, well, you know the drill: I came to dance. xxx.

...caught me by surprise

Somehow I missed this track in my hip hop post yesterday (and in my other relevant post this morning), but go ahead and add Tiesto to the list of artists bringing rap to the house music scene with the lyrical styles of Busta Rhymes on the C'mon remix, "Catch 'Em By Surprise."

Get 'em hypnotized. xxx.

SATURDAY: Louder than VEGAS | Tiesto @ the Joint

I recently got into a massive fight with a friend over the fact that everyone knows who Tiesto is. I find it shocking that there are people out there who don't live under rocks and haven't heard of the #1 DJ in the world (get out of here Armin). Even my own MOTHER knows Tiesto. Then again, my mom is pretty effing cool.

That said, all the cool kids know that the gigantic Dutch music-maker has taken up a residency at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Of course, his "residency" is only once a month, which I'm honestly not sure counts as a "residency" - I think it just means he likes Vegas. Not to mention he made a surprise appearance at the very same Joint over Halloween during Swedish House Mafia's Masquerade Motel. I digress... The point is, the Joint might be the only place big enough for this much dancing.

New Yorkers, fret not! If you're not planning on hopping on a plane tomorrow, you can still catch Tiesto in New York next Sunday the 13th at Webster Hall.

Here's a handful of tracks to prepare you:

DJ Tiesto feat. Maxi Jazz - 01 - Dance4Life (Radio Edit) by Dj Tiesto - group - fan-
Tiesto vs. Diplo - Cmon Original Mix by Dj Tiesto - group - fan-
03. Tiesto - Feel it in My Bones (Feat. Tegan and Sara) by Einar5
Tiesto - Century (feat. Calvin Harris) by Potsmoggy

Tiesto-Speed Rail (original mix) by kosmYyn.
Pirates Of The Caribean - Tiesto ! by TranceMusicClub

Bryan, if you're reading this, take notes. xxx.

it's bigger than religion

I grew up with rap and hip hop. When I was young, my bedtime stories actually consisted of "Children's story" by Slick Rick. My dad rapped his own version of "Gin & Juice" to cheer me up after a bad day in junior high. Now, I don't know how a skinny white guy who doesn't even eat red meat (let alone blaze and pass the courvoisier) got into the gangsta scene, but it probably explains a bit about my childhood.

So obviously my tastes have changed and I haven't been as into hip hop these days. Yet recently, I've definitely been noticing a bit of an amalgamation of house and hip hop. And that's definitely a good thing. Here's a few I like:

Super Sharp Shooter by heavyfuckingbass
Deadmau5 vs Far East Movement - Ghosts on a G6 (UltiMe Remix ) by Nico Séguy
Busy P - To-Protect-And-Entertain [Crookers-Remix] by 420orion727
N.E.R.D. vs. Crookers & Kid Sister "Hot n Fun" (Ben Mono´s Bit-Hop refun) by ben mono
Flo-Rida feat. David Guetta - Club Can't Handle Me(Club mix) -bhavya7 by bhavya7

it's just a gangsta kind of thursday. get into it. xxx.

california dreaming

In honor of the two trips I've booked to California in the month of February alone (can anyone say "homesick"? well I spell it "f-u-c-k-w-i-n-t-e-r"), I thought I'd post an old favorite of mine, the ultimate classic: Benassi's California Dreaming.

Strangely enough this song actually reminds me of my English roommate in Miami... which has nothing to do with California, and never really has brown leaves.

Sorry for the retarded video - sadly, this one's also missing from SoundCloud.

Music, please. xxx.

FRIDAY: out with Felguk in LA

Being fed up with ice and snow, I'm heading west for a sun and dance filled weekend.

Anyone in LA on Friday, head to Avalon to dance with me and Brazilian duo Felguk. Their beats are a little dirtier than my usual, but all the better for a big night out.

Felguk - Do You Like Bass 2009 (Original Mix) by tooonzildo
Felguk - Buzz Me by upproducoes
Felguk - Side By Side by NebO

and last but not least, my personal favorite Felguk track, which unfortunately is missing from the cloud of sound I've come to love so much:

See you soon, westcoasters! xxx.
